Summary

Although demand is down and imports are up, North America is expected to represent a significant portion of cement and lime manufacturing projects that are set to kick off in the coming years.

Asia Leads Global Growth

The global cement and lime sectors are projected to benefit from the growing demand for infrastructure projects, which is reflected in a significant number of manufacturing developments. Industrial Info Resources is tracking more than 3,700 active and proposed projects for cement and lime manufacturing worldwide, totaling more than US$96 billion of investment. More than half of the total is found in Asia, where India's cement sector accounts for nearly US$25 billion.

According to Industrial Info Resources data, North America is home to more than US$5.5 billion of the total, with the U.S. cement sector accounting for about $3.76 billion. The U.S. cement-manufacturing sector is suffering from a four-year decline in consumption and rising imports. Few large projects are in the works at this time, one of which is GCC S.A.B. de C.V., which is putting the final touches on an expansion of its cement plant in Odessa, Texas.

GCC's new, 3,000-ton-per-day clinker production line is designed to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and bring the facility's total production to more than 2 million tons per year. Industrial Info Resources offers more information on the Odessa expansion in its Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Metals & Minerals Plant and Project databases, where readers can find details--including construction schedules, investment values and necessary equipment--in a plant profile and project report.

Another major addition set to wrap up later this year is Eagle Materials Incorporated's expansion and modernization of its cement plant in Laramie, Wyoming. Eagle is replacing two existing kilns with a high-temperature "pyroprocessing" line, with ThyssenKrupp's U.S.-based subsidiary serving as general contractor. Readers can learn more from a detailed plant profile and project report.

In the lime sector, Lhoist Group's North American subsidiary is wrapping up an expansion of its lime plant in Clifton, Texas. Lhoist is installing two kilns at the facility to double its production to roughly 1.2 million metric tons per year. Details on the project, which has been underway since early 2025, can be found in a plant profile and project report.

"Continued population growth in the [U.S.] South has created increased demand for Lhoist North America's calcium-based products, with customers having announced new steel mills, LNG export facilities, lithium-hydroxide production plants and water-treatment facilities," the company said on its website. "These expansions in multiple markets require lime both in the initial infrastructure build and in the longer-term production processes."

Of the nearly US$25 billion worth of projects in India's cement sector, about US$7.4 billion worth currently are slated to begin construction before the end of the year. Readers can consult a detailed list of project reports.

By the Numbers
  • More than 3,700: Total projects for cement and lime manufacturing worldwide
  • More than US$5.5 billion: Total investment in cement and lime projects within the U.S.
  • Up to US$23 billion: Total value of cement and lime projects set to begin construction worldwide through the end of 2026

More on the Horizon

The remainder of 2026 could see up to US$23 billion worth of cement and lime projects begin construction worldwide, according to Industrial Info Resources data. This includes Silvi Materials' construction of a cement terminal in Morehead City, North Carolina, a coastal area about 75 miles northeast of Wilmington. The facility, which will feature two storage domes and round-the-clock access to truck and rail transportation, adds to Silvi's growing footprint following its acquisition of North Carolina-based Eagle Rock Concrete last year.

Readers can learn more about the Morehead City development from a detailed plant profile and project report.

Next year has its own slate of potential kickoffs, totaling more than US$35 billion of investment worldwide. These include Graymont Limited's first phase of its lime complex near Giscome, British Columbia. The three-phase development is expected to see the installation of three kilns to produce as much as 600,000 tons per year of lime from an adjacent quarry, as market conditions warrant. Details on the project can be found in a plant profile and project reports on Phase I, Phase II and Phase III.

The Industrial Info Resources GMI Project and Plant databases offer a full list of detailed reports for projects mentioned in this article, and a full list of related plant profiles.

Industrial Info Resources also offers full lists of reports for cement and lime manufacturing projects worldwide and just in the U.S.
