Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The U.S. Great Lakes region, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, is set to see $8.87 billion in Power Industry project starts and completions in the upcoming fourth quarter of 2018. Ohio, with $4.22 billion in planned projects, leads the region, followed by Michigan with $1.77 billion.

Among the top projects planned to kick off next quarter is EmberClear Corporation's (Houston, Texas) natural gas-fired power plant near Cadiz, Ohio. Construction on the 1,050-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle plant is planned to start before the end of the year and be completed in the summer of 2021. The plant was approved by the Ohio Power Siting Board in June of this year, opening the way for construction. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $1 billion. Also in Ohio, Fortress Investment Group LLC (New York, New York) plans to kick off construction on a 485-MW natural gas-fired plant near Hannibal. The plant will be located on the site of a former aluminum smelter and will use General Electric (NYSE:GE) equipment. Construction is set to start before the end of the year and be completed by the end of 2020. Kiewit Power Constructors Company (Lenexa, Kansas) is performing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $500 million. Illinois is dominated by wind power projects. Among these is Avangrid Renewables' (Radnor, Pennsylvania) planned 150-MW Otter Creek Windfarm near Streator, about 100 miles southwest of Chicago. Rock Management Group (Traverse City, Michigan) is gearing up to construct the 80-MW Phase II of the Garden Windfarm in Garden, Michigan. Phase II will use 35 2.3-MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbine generators. Construction is expected to begin soon and be completed in summer 2019. Motor City Electric Company (Detroit, Michigan) and Barton Malow Company (Southfield, Michigan) are the contractors on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $160 million. Completions
Among the projects to wrap up in the quarter is Pure Energy Resources LLC's (Burlington, Massachusetts) 940-MW natural gas-fired power plant near Lordstown, Ohio. Construction on the $890 million project began in early 2016, with Kokosing Industrial Company (Lordstown) providing EPC. Construction on the plant is expected to be completed soon. Also planned for completion in the fourth quarter is Xcel Energy Incorporated (NASDAQ:XEL) (Minneapolis, Minnesota) and American Transmission Company LLC's (ATC) (Waukesha, Wisconsin) 180-mile Badger-Coulee transmission line in Wisconsin. Construction on the on the 345-kilovolt, single-circuit transmission line began in 2016 and is expected to be completed before the end of the year. The line will run from Xcel's Bridge Road Substation in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to ATC's North Madison Substation in Madison, Wisconsin, and to the Cardinal Substation in Cardinal. Henkels & McCoy Incorporated (McFarland, Wisconsin) is the contractor on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $580 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Illinois, Enel Green Power North America (Reno, Nevada) is wrapping up construction on the 185-MW Hilltopper Windfarm near Mount Pulaski. Construction on the $350 million project began earlier this year and is expected to be completed by yearend. The facility will use 74 General Electric 2.5-MW wind turbine generators.
