Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Guangdong Thermal Power Construction Company Limited (GTPC) (Guangzhou, Guangdong), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), completed the erection of the first steel frame for the heat recovery steam generator of Unit 2 in Huaneng Power International Corporation Limited Chongqing Branch's (Chongqing) Liangjiang Gas-fired Power Plant on August 18, 2013, according to an announcement from the CEEC on August 23. The completion kicked off the mechanical erection for Unit 2.
The Huaneng Chongqing Liangjiang Gas-fired Power Plant, located inside the Shuitu Hi-tech Industrial Park of Liangjiang New District in Chongqing, is the largest gas-fired power project in the Sichuan-Chongqing region. It is considered an important project for the "10-gigawatt power generation program," which seeks to add 10 GW of power generation capacity by the end of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) launched by the municipal government of Chongqing. The project plans to build five sets of combined heat, cold and power units based on F-class, gas-fired turbines in phases. Two 470-MW, F-class, combined-cycle units are to be built in the initial stage; the units are based on the M701F4 gas turbine manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Dongfang Gas Turbine (Guangzhou) Company Limited (MHI-DGT) (Guangzhou, Guangdong), a joint venture of Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited (Tokyo, Japan).
Construction (first concrete date) on Unit 1 kicked off on December 28, 2012. So far, the underground facilities for the project have been completed. It's expected that the main powerhouse will be roofed at the end of the year. Construction on Unit 2 is contracted to the GTPC. According to the latest progress, both units of the project will begin operations in 2014. The first unit (Unit 1) is expected to begin operations in March 2014, and Unit 2 is expected to begin operations in May 2014. Upon completion, the project will supply stable and reliable heat, cold and power sources for Chongqing Liangjiang New District, and will play an important role in alleviating the power shortage in Chongqingg; in optimizing the power source structure; and in promoting the economic structure adjustment.
