Hebei Huadian Shijiazhuang South Suburban 600-Megawatt Coal-Fired CHP Project Begins Construction

A 600-megawatt expansion of the combined heat and power (CHP) project of Hebei Huadian Shijiazhuang Yuhua Thermal Power Company, Limited (Yuhua Thermal Power) (Hebei, China) received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) by Document Fa Gai Neng Yuan Dispatch No. [2007] 1526 on July 7, 2007.

The project is an important heat supply source project in Shijiazhuang, the capital city of Hebei province. The project involves construction of two 300 MW subcritical coal-fired units with urban intermediate water as its water supply source. The project will be furnished with an electrostatic precipitator and a flue gas desulfurization scrubber, together with necessary associated heat supply network. Upon completion, the project could have the capacity to supply 100 metric tons/hour of steam for industrial purposes and to supply heat for an area of 12 million square meters. This will replace about 160 small heat supply boilers scattered in the area at present.

Yuhua Thermal Power is jointly invested by Hebei Huadian Shijiazhuang Thermal Power Company, Limited (Hebei, China) (60%) and Shijiazhuang Energy Investment Development Center (40%). The project was selected by the NDRC as a candidate project to be started in 2007. Yuhua Thermal Power mandated Hubei Electric Power Survey, Design and Research Institute to carry out the design for the project in March 2005.

The project is located at Dongyin Village, Luancheng County in the south suburb of Shijiangzhuang City. Presently, the supply contracts for the boiler, turbine and generator have been awarded. Preparation works such as site leveling and access roads are under construction. Construction of the project is expected to start officially later this month, and the entire project is expected to complete by the end of 2008.
