Holcim Gives Green Light to Missouri Cement Plant

Holcim, Limited (Jona, Switzerland) recently attained board approval for the grassroot Sainte Gienevieve Cement plant in Bloomsdale, Missouri. Air, water, and mining permits were received in 2004. Site preparation began earlier this year on the project that is estimated to be in excess of $600 million. Located on the Mississippi River, the project will include a harbor/port, limestone quarry, and a 4.4 million tons per year cement manufacturing plant.

Earlier this year, Holcim selected Bloomsdale Excavating Company, Incorporated (Bloomsdale, Missouri) to perform the site preparation and harbor construction portion of the project. Site excavation includes the movement of close to six million cubic yards of earth.

FL Smidth (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) is the selected equipment supplier and will also perform the engineering for the project. Bids for equipment and installation will be released starting in the second quarter of 2006. Holcim expects the plant to be up and operating by 2009.
