Horizon Wind Energy is Constructing Next Phase of Twin Groves Windfarm

Horizon Wind Energy LLC (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of Energias de Portugal SA (NYSE:EDPFY) (Lisbon, Portugal), is constructing phase 2 of the Twin Groves Windfarm in McLean County near Bloomington, Illinois. Phase 1 and 2 are both 198-megawatts (MW) each so with the completion of phase 2 the Twin Groves Windfarm will have a total of 396 MW.

Phase 1 and 2 both utilize 120 Vestas V82 wind turbine/generators, each rated at 1.65 MW. M.A. Mortenson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is providing general contractor services. Initial windfarm construction commenced during the third

Quarter 2006, and phase 1 was completed during the second Quarter 2007. Phase 2 started construction during the second Quarter 2007 and is to be completed during the first Quarter 2008. When phase 2 is completed the Illinois windfarm will be the second largest in the United States.

Horizon is looking for power purchase agreements for phases 3 and 4. If power is purchased it is possible that phases 3 and 4 could be built as early as 2008 and 2009. Phase 3 is tentatively projected as 80MW and phase 4 is looking at possibly an additional 200MW. If all goes as planned this windfarm will produce a total of about 676MW.
