Summary

Howmet expects the global market for industrial gas-turbine components will continue to strengthen well into the 2030s, with its long-term contracts with high-profile customers supporting its planned capacity expansions.

No End in Sight for Gas Turbine Demand

Howmet Aerospace Incorporated is riding the constantly cresting wave of demand for industrial gas turbines. The company, which manufactures components critical to gas-turbine operations, expects its order backlog will grow exponentially in coming years as its competitors face sold-out inventories. Industrial Info Resources is tracking progress at 49 operational facilities worldwide owned by Howmet, including 37 in the U.S.

John Plant, the chief executive officer of Howmet, said in a quarterly earnings-related conference call Thursday that third-quarter revenues in the company's gas-turbine business grew 45% when compared with the same period last year. He also pointed to a strong long-term outlook "beyond 2028," citing customers who are facing sold-out capacities from turbine providers.

"More recently, we have seen major gas-turbine customers state that 2031 is now also sold out, and indeed 2032 will likely be sold out in the next one or two quarters," Plant said in the earnings call. "This growing level of demand continues into the 2030s, and combined with the need for significant increases in future gas-turbine spares, provides us with even greater confidence.

Accordingly, Howmet is preparing to expand production capacity at its superalloy foundry in Wichita Falls, Texas, where the company produces high-performance metal components for gas turbines, such as blades, airfoils and vanes. In September, the Wichita Falls City Council approved a $5.275 million economic development package to support the expansion, which could begin construction as early as February.

Executives said Howmet's long-term agreements with major industrial gas-turbine manufacturers positions put the company in a favorable position to address rising demand. Plant noted Howmet counts General Electric Company, Safran S.A., Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce among its customers.

According to Industrial Info Resources data, Howmet's active and proposed projects total more than $325 million worldwide. Subscribers can consult a full list of project reports.

Howmet also produces fastening systems and structural components for the aerospace industry.

Sky's the Limit in Aerospace

Companywide, Howmet's revenues grew 33% from the third quarter of 2025 to $1.45 billion, which executives attributed partly to the company's acquisition of Brunner Fastener, completed in February. Brunner specializes in the production of bolts, pins, wires and other steel-based fastener materials.

Notably, Howmet notched 32% growth in the commercial aerospace market and 10% growth in the defense aerospace market. In April, the company completed an expansion of a casting plant for jet-engine components in Whitehall, Michigan, which will allow the facility to produce ceramic cores used in jet engines and gas turbines. Howmet also is at work on an expansion of its ceramic cores plant in Morristown, Tennessee, which kicked off in the second quarter of 2025. In addition to the new production lines, the company aims to improve its output of fuel-efficient aerospace engines, which one executive said would enable "the next generation of quieter, cleaner, more efficient engines and power generation." Subscribers can learn more from a plant profile and project report.

"The way things are shaping, I sense that we're going to have a very continuing high level of capital expenditure into 2028," Plant said in the earnings call. The company did not provide a specific dollar value, but executives expect Howmet's 2027 capital expenditures will exceed those for full-year 2026, which are projected to come in at more than $500 million.
