Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the main construction bid for China Shenhua Group's (Beijing) Jiaozuo Power Plant at the beginning of the year, Henan No. 2 Thermal Power Construction Company (HTPC2) (Zhengzhou, Henan), a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (PCCC) (Beijing), received the notice of bid award for Bid B of the China Resources Haifeng Power Plant from China Resources Power Holdings Limited (Hong Kong) on February 18, 2013. According to the notice, HTPC2 was selected as the main construction contractor for Unit 1. This is the fourth 1,000-megawatt (MW) main construction project for a unit received by the company, according to an announcement from PCCC on February 19.

The China Resources Haifeng Power Plant, located in Haifeng County of Shanwei City, is the first 1,000-MW, coal-fired project invested by China Resources Group (Beijing) in South China's Guangdong province. The power plant has a total planned capacity of 8,000 MW, of which two ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units, together with flue gas desulfuration and denitration devices, will be built in Phase I. China Resources Power Shanwei Haifeng Project Preparation Office, a subsidiary of China Resources Power Holdings, is responsible for the development and future operation of the power plant. Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (Xian, Shaanxi) is responsible for the design and engineering of the project.

As reported, prior to the awarding of Bid B, Bid A (foundation and piling works) of the project had been awarded to Wuhan Surveying-Geotechnical Research Institute Company Limited of MCC (Wuhan, Hubei) in December 2012. Together with Bid B, Bid C (coal conveying system) of the project was awarded to Jiangxi Engineering Bureau of Hydropower (Nanchang, Jiangxi) at the same time.

As a key project listed in the 12th Five-Year (2011-15) Development Plan for the Guangdong province, both units of the project are expected to begin operations in October and December 2014, respectively. Upon completion, the project will be able to generate more than 11 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the grid every year and become a large-scale backbone power plant in the Guangdong grid.
