Hyundai Steel Seeks Lower Emissions from Furnaces
Hyundai Steel plans to reduce its direct and indirect carbon emissions 12% by 2030, as part of its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050
Instead of using blast furnaces, which emit massive amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2), the company will build its own electric furnaces. As a first step, Hyundai Steel is renovating one of its existing furnaces in South Korea to establish a combined electric furnace and blast furnace process. It is supporting the project with a 499-megawatt (MW) power plant.
