Total has shut down the 40,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Atmospheric Crude Oil Unit (ACU) (Unit 812) at its 190,000-BBL/d refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, due to an extended outage on the 76,000-BBL/d Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) 2 as a result of a small fire on August 17. The 24,000-BBL/d Diesel Hydrotreater (HT) 2 and 50,000-BBL/d Gasoline HT also were shut down. This event is expected to last until at least August 25.

Shell, today, August 23, began oil-out procedures for a 50-day, plant-wide maintenance turnaround, which includes four units, at its 96,500-BBL/d Scotford Refinery in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

Pemex TRI continues to operate its six refineries despite the arrival of Hurricane Grace in Veracruz, Mexico, on August 21. The only one in the storm's path -- the 285,000-BBL/d refinery in Lazaro Cardenas (Minatitlan) -- was not impacted.

International
Ryazan NPK CJSC, on August 19, started a planned maintenance turnaround of more than 10 units at its 397,000-BBL/d Ryazan Refinery in Russia. The units are scheduled to gradually restart before the end of October.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has begun the planned 27-day shutdown of the 120,000-BBL/d Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU), for the rectification of column internals, at its 300,000-BBL/d Paradip Refinery in India. As a result, the lone Atmospheric Distillation Unit (ADU) and 84,000-BBL/d FCCU are operating at 50% and 56%, respectively. Expectations are to restart the units by September 16.

YPF SA restarted the 45,200-BBL/d FCC A unit at its 205,000-BBL/d refinery in La Plata, Argentina, over the weekend, after major planned maintenance work that began June 25. Separately, the 24,800-BBL/d FCC B unit continues online; the 90,000-BBL/d Topping C unit is processing 55,000 BBL/d; the 90,000-BBL/d Topping D is processing 45,000 BBL/d and the 25,000-BBL/d Topping 4 is processing 18,000 BBL/d, while the rest of the processing units are running at approximately 75% capacity.
