Industrial and Infrastructure Assets Targeted As Russia Invades Ukraine
As Russian forces roll into Ukraine, bombing military installations and taking control of key infrastructure points, the status of Ukraine's industrial assets is dire
According to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence, there are 334 industrial plants in Ukraine, which has a large coal mining, steel manufacturing and power generation industry.

Ukraine's 13 ports have been closed as explosions rocked several including the port of Ochakiv on Thursday as Russian forces assaulted a Ukrainian naval base. Ukraine's military suspended commercial shipping at its ports, sparking concerns of supply disruptions from one of the world's largest grain exporters.
Energy infrastructure is being targeted. On Thursday, Russian troops captured the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station on the Dnieper River, according to news accounts. The 1,244 megawatt coal-fired Luganskaya Power Plant was shuttered following damage to outgoing electrical transmission lines. Ukraine's 15 nuclear reactor (13.7 gigawatts) power generation fleet is on alert, and there have been reports that the Chernobyl nuclear plant site is now Russian occupied.

Steel production in Ukraine also was impacted. ArcelorMittal S.A. (NYSE:MT) (Luxembourg, Luxembourg) said it was slowing production at its major steel plant in Ukraine to a technical minimum and will stop production at its underground mines. ArcelorMittal operates one of Europe's biggest steel mills at Kryvi Rih in Ukraine. Metalinvest a large steelmaker in Ukraine, was reportedly shutting down its Ilyich and Azovstal steel mills and other mills in the country. Russia's likely primary goal is to encircle the capital, Kyiv.
