Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Associated Electric Cooperative, Incorporated (AECI) (Springfield, Missouri) is moving ahead with the installation of three selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems at the 1,153 megawatt (MW) coal-fired Thomas Hill power station located in Clifton Hills, Missouri.
Burns & McDonnell (Kansas City, Missouri) has been selected to handle the engineering and construction services for the project. Also, AECI has contracted Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) (Barberton, Ohio), a subsidiary of McDermott International (NYSE:MDR) (Houston, Texas), to supply the SCR equipment. Graycor Industrial Contractors, Incorporated (Homewood, Illinois) was selected to construct the system. Civil site preparation and the pouring of foundations have begun, with installation of equipment expected to begin in the first quarter of 2007. Completion of the Unit 03 SCR and tie-ins is scheduled for the first quarter 2008.
Preliminary engineering is coming to a close on the installation of SCRs for Units 01 and 02, which are both powered by a B&W coal-fired cyclone boiler and each is capable of producing 1.25 MM lbs/hr steam. Both units became commercially operational in 1966. Civil site preparations are expected to begin in mid-2007, with completion and tie-ins scheduled for early 2009. B&W SCR equipment has been selected for these units as well, but neither AECI nor Burns and McDonald have released any request for proposal or request for quotes at this time.
At the New Madrid Power Station, AECI is installing over-fired air systems (OFA) on both its B&W coalfired cyclone boilers. OFA was installed on Unit 02 during the fall 2006 outage, and installation of OFA is scheduled to be installed on Unit 01 during the Spring 2007 outage.
