Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Iraq aims to harness its solar resources to achieve its goal of generating 30% of its power from renewables by 2030.
The country has entered into substantial agreements with international firms for solar initiatives, such as TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) (Courbevoie, France), UAE-based Masdar Clean Energy (Abu Dhabi), AlBilal Group (Abu Dhabi), Orascom Construction (Cairo, Egypt) and PowerChina (Beijing, China).
Iraq also plans to allocate more solar power projects in the near future to advance its renewable energy production and reach the 12-gigawatt (GW) target by 2030. The country's objective is to enhance energy security, reduce electricity production costs, and decrease its reliance on power imports.
Iraq presently generates approximately 19 GW, while the demand for electricity stands at 30 GW. Recently, Iraq unveiled plans for a 750-megawatt (MW) solar park to be established in the southern Al-Muthanna Governorate, along with a 150-MW solar project in the Al-Anbar Governorate.
Solar energy remains a primary focus, with additional contributions from alternative sources like wind power as well as waste-to-energy projects.
Industrial Info is tracking 27 solar, wind and waste-to-energy projects for production of 8.4 GW of renewable energy capacity in Iraq. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can click here for a list of detailed project reports.
