Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Founded in 1947, Jacobs Solutions Incorporated (NYSE:J) (Dallas, Texas) (formerly Jacobs Engineering) has become one of the world's leading engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors. Industrial Info is tracking more than $144 billion worth of projects involving Jacobs throughout the world, including more than $75 billion worth in the U.S. These projects cover a broad array of industrial sectors, including pharmaceutical-biotech, data centers and light rail.
Among the largest projects on which Jacobs is at work is the addition of two semiconductor fabrication plants at Intel Corporation's (NASDAQ:INTC) (Santa Clara, California) campus in Chandler, Arizona. Construction on Fab 52 and Fab 62 at the company's Ocotillo campus, on the southeastern outskirts of Phoenix, kicked off in early 2022. The two new plants will collectively total 670,000 square feet and bring the total number of fabrication plants at the site to six. The project is expected to be completed in late 2024. For several years, Jacobs has been acting as a consultant to a large commuter rail project in Honolulu, Hawaii. Construction on the initial, grassroot first segment has been underway since 2014 and is expected to last a number of years more. This seven-mile section of track will include seven stations from East Kapolei to Ala Moana Center. The entire commuter rail network is planned to encompass about 20 miles of track and 21 stations, with a planned completion date in the early 2030s. Subscribers can click here for more details.
Another rail project on which Jacobs is performing design-engineering work is a bit closer to completion. An extension of the line between Seattle and Tacoma, Washington, has been under construction for about four and a half years. The project entails constructing a 2.4-mile light rail extension, including six stations and the relocation of another. Construction is expected to wrap up toward the end of this year. Jacobs is participating in more than 30 pharmaceutical-biotech projects across the U.S. Approaching completion is a laboratory building in Cambridge, Massachusetts, being constructed for Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE:BMY) (New York, New York). The nine-story, 479,000-square-foot building will be equipped for the research and development activities of multiple tenants, with 360,000 square feet dedicated to Bristol-Meyers Squibb. Jacobs is providing architectural and engineering duties on the project, which is expected to wrap up later this summer. Jacobs also is at work on a few data center projects in the U.S. In San Jose, California, Jacobs is providing engineering services for the construction of a data center at a brownfield site for China Mobile International Limited (CMI) (Hong Kong). The project, which kicked off in 2019, involves demolishing two existing structures and building a five-story, 305,500-square-foot building that will be connected to a smaller, two-story building.
