Jonesboro City Water & Light Expands Northwest Peaking Station in Arkansas

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Jonesboro City Water & Light (Jonesboro, Arkansas) has commenced full commercial start-up of the estimated $25 million, 50-megawatt expansion project at its Northwest Peaking Station located in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Construction of the expansion project started in January 2007 and was completed in March. Jonesboro City Water & Light went commercial with the project this month. The project consisted of adding a 50-megawatt natural gas-fired GE Power Systems LM6000 SPRINT combustion turbine generator to the existing site. The new unit will operate in a simple cycle peaking configuration, helping to produce more energy for the growing needs of the citizens of Jonesboro during the hot summers and cold winters. The Northwest Peaking Station currently has a nameplate capacity of 85 megawatts, but with the new expansion it will now be capable of generating a total of 135 megawatts.

Spectrum Energy Incorporated, based in Charlotte, North Carolina performed the turnkey E+P+C (engineering, procurement and construction) services for the project. H & M Constructors of Jackson, Mississippi acted as the general contractor.
