Lightsource bp Secures Funding for Arkansas Solar Project
Renewable energy developer Lightsource bp (London, England) has secured a $327 million funding package for its Driver solar project near Osceola, Arkansas.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Renewable energy developer Lightsource bp (London, England) has secured a $327 million funding package for its Driver solar project near Osceola, Arkansas. The project is being built on a build-transfer agreement with Entergy Corporation (NYSE:ETR) (New Orleans, Louisiana) division Entergy Arkansas (Little Rock).
Construction of the solar farm could begin later this year, putting it on track for completion by the end of 2024. The facility will have nameplate generating capacity of 250 megawatts (MW) and will be the largest solar facility in Arkansas. Lightsource bp will be responsible for the construction of the solar farm, and upon completion Entergy Arkansas will take on the ownership and operations. The solar farm is being constructed near United States Steel Corporation's (NYSE:X) (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) Big River steel mill, and the power from the solar farm will be used at the facility. The steel facility is underway with the addition of a minimill with two electric arc furnaces capable of producing 3 million tons per year. Among Lightsource bp's other renewable energy projects in Arkansas is the Conway solar farm near Griffithville, construction of which began last year. The facility will use approximately 300,000 bifacial solar panels on a single-axis tracking system to achieve a generating capacity of 95 MW. But Lightsource bp isn't the only company with renewable energy ambitions in Arkansas. NextEra Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) is underway with its Big Cypress photovoltaic solar plant near Turrell, about 25 miles northwest of Memphis, Tennessee. Construction on the facility kicked off in late 2021. Expected to complete construction this summer is a solar farm being developed by Cubico Sustainable Investments (London, England) near Crossett, Arkansas, in the southeast of the state.
