Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The second (No.2) 700-megawatt (MW) hydraulic unit of the Longtan Hydropower Station passed the 72-hour continuous loaded trial operation successfully in Southwest Chinas Guangxi Autonomous Region on July 20, 2007. This is another important milestone after the first unit of the project was successfully put into operation on May 21, 2007.
Installation and commissioning of Longtan Hydropower Station is responsible by the Seventh Project Bureau of China Hydraulic and Hydroelectric Construction Group Corporation (Sinohydro) (Beijing, China). After the first 700-megawatt air-cooling hydraulic turbine-generating unit was put into operation, the project bureau set up the objective to install the second unit. Based on the experiences gained from the installation and commissioning of the first unit, better processing and higher requirements were proposed through optimization on the existing technical scheme. With adequate measures made from various aspects, new progress was achieved day by day. Less than two months after the first unit was put into operation, installation of the second unit was fully complete.
The 72-hour trial operation for the second unit was started on July 17, 2007. Monitoring data taken from the trial operation showed that various technical indices of the unit are in accordance with or better than the national standard. The unit operation is stable and reliable.
After one day of shutdown to perform necessary maintenance after the trial operation, the unit was handed over to the power plant. The unit is now in official operation, and is playing an important function in alleviating the power shortage suffered in the Southern Grid of China.
Longtan Hydropower Station is a large-scale hydropower station located at the upstream of Hongshuihe River in the main stem of the Pearl River. Initial installation capacity of the power station is 4,200 megawatts with six 700 MW units, and an annual power output of 15,670 GWh. The entire project is expected to complete in 2009.
