Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--MarkWest Energy Partners (Denver, Colorado), a subsidiary of MPLX LP (NYSE:MPLX) (Findlay, Ohio), is expanding its footprint in Appalachia with several natural gas processing projects in West Virginia and Ohio. Industrial Info is tracking slightly less than $2 billion in active MarkWest projects, including more than $1.6 billion in Ohio and West Virginia.

Among the top projects planned to kick off in Ohio is the addition of a fifth natural gas processing train at MarkWest's plant in Summerfield, Ohio. The 200 million-cubic-foot-per-day train would bring the plant's total processing capacity to 1 billion cubic feet per day of gas from the Utica Shale. The project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $200 million, could kick off early next year, taking six to seven months to be completed. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Cadiz, Ohio, MarkWest is in the early planning stages for a fourth train at its natural gas processing plant. The plant has a current processing capacity of 525 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, with a 40,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) natural gas liquids (NGL) production capacity. The expansion would increase gas processing capacity by 200 million cubic feet per day. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In West Virginia, MarkWest is underway with adding a tenth processing train to its plant in West Union. The project will bring total processing capacity at the plant to 2 billion cubic feet per day. The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Elsewhere in Appalachia, MarkWest is in the early stages of constructing a grassroot natural gas processing plant near Washington, Pennsylvania, in the southwest corner of the state. The two-train cryogenic processing plant will process up to 200 million cubic feet per day. The plant will have an NGL production capacity of 20,000 BBL/d. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Not all of MarkWest's projects are destined for Appalachia. In Orla, Texas, the company is underway with construction of a grassroot gas processing plant. The 200 million-cubic-foot-per-day plant will process gas from the Delaware Basin. Construction began in the first half of 2017 and is expected to be completed soon. For more information, see Industrial info's project report. For more on the $3.7 billion of active projects in Orla, see March 29, 2018, article - West Texas Ghost Town Hosts Big Oil Pipelines, Natural Gas Projects.
