Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $6.4 billion in planned industrial project completions in California in the first half of 2018. The Industrial Manufacturing Industry, with more than $1.85 billion in planned completions, leads in terms of project value. This is followed by the Petroleum Refining Industry, with $1.56 billion in planned completions, and the Power Industry, with $1.19 billion.

Among the largest projects being tracked is Royal Dutch Shell's (NYSE:RDS-A) (The Hague, Netherlands) greenhouse gas reduction project at its refinery in Martinez. The project involves shutting down the flexicoker unit and making plantwide upgrades to shift from heavy crude oil to a light crude oil feedstock. The project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $450 million, kicked off in mid-2016 and is nearing completion. It will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 700,000 metric tons a year, reduce water use by 15% and sulfur dioxides emissions by 25%. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) is wrapping up a grassroot fulfillment center in Fresno. The $200 million project kicked off in 2017 and is set to be completed early this summer. The 855,000-square-foot building is being constructed on a 65-acre site and will include supporting equipment and systems to pick, pack and ship larger items. In Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Los Angeles, California) is completing a 115,650-square-foot maintenance facility near Los Angeles International Airport. The facility will include storage for 70 light-rail vehicles and provisions for future buildout as the vehicle fleet grows. Construction on the $172 million project began in mid-2015. In the Power Industry, Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California) is wrapping up a 205-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic solar farm near Cantua Creek in the central part of the state. The project is being constructed on a 1,600-acre site and kicked off in the first half of 2017. Signal Energy Constructors (San Francisco, California) is performing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $410 million. Consolidated Edison Incorporated (NYSE:ED) (New York, New York) is constructing another solar farm on a 4,717-acre site near Paicines. The facility is expected to be completed early this summer and will provide 130 MW. Wood Group (Aberdeen, Scotland) is performing EPC work on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $206 million.
