More Than $7 Billion in First-Half 2018 Renewable Energy Completions Set for U.S.
The U.S. is set to see more than $7 billion in renewable energy project completions in the first half of 2018, according to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Integrated Platform.
Among the highest-value projects planned for completion in the first half of this year is the Santa Rita Wind Energy Center in Reagan County, Texas. The $690 million project is being developed by Invenergy LLC (Chicago, Illinois), with Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC). The 300-megawatt (MW) project will use 120 2.5-MW wind turbine-generators. Construction on the project began the second quarter of 2017. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Nebraska, Aksamit Resources Management (Lincoln, Nebraska) is in the final stages of construction on its Milligan I Windfarm in Saline County. Construction on the $525 million project began in the second half of 2017. M.A. Mortenson Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is providing EPC work. The 300-MW project will use 150 2-MW wind turbine-generators. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Turning to solar power, one of the largest projects planned to wrap up in the first half of the year is NRG Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NRG) (Princeton, New Jersey) Buckthorn photovoltaic solar plant in Pecos County, Texas. Construction on the 155-MW project began in the first half of last year. The facility is using solar panels manufactured by First Solar Incorporated (NASDAQ:FSLR) (Tempe, Arizona). Swinerton Renewable Energy (San Diego, California) is a contractor on the project, which has an estimated total investment value of $250 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In California, Consolidated Edison Incorporated (NYSE:ED) (New York, New York) is wrapping up construction of its Panoche Valley solar farm near Pacines, California. The 130-MW facility is being constructed on 4,717 acres. John Wood Group plc (Aberdeen, Scotland) is providing EPC on the project. Construction on the $206 million project began in early 2016. Commercial operation is expected to begin this summer. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Most of the U.S. hydropower completions being tracked by Industrial Info involve uprates, refurbishments and modernizations of existing plants. Among these is Consumers Energy's (Jackson, Michigan) uprate of Unit 1 at the Ludington pumped-storage hydropower station in Ludington, Michigan. Consumers Energy is the primary subsidiary CMS Energy (NYSE:CMS) (Jackson). The project involves replacing the existing 312-MW Hitachi turbines with Toshiba turbines to bring the unit's generating capacity to 360 MW. Construction on the $134 million project began early last year, with Newkirk Electric Associates Incorporated (Muskegon, Michigan) acting as contractor. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
