Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The U.S. is set to see more than $7 billion in renewable energy project completions in the first half of 2018, according to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Integrated Platform. This includes $3.27 billion in solar projects, $2.46 billion in wind projects and $514 million in hydropower projects. The Southwest market region leads in terms of the value of these project completions, thanks to a few high-dollar wind projects in Texas.

Most of the U.S. hydropower completions being tracked by Industrial Info involve uprates, refurbishments and modernizations of existing plants. Among these is Consumers Energy's (Jackson, Michigan) uprate of Unit 1 at the Ludington pumped-storage hydropower station in Ludington, Michigan. Consumers Energy is the primary subsidiary CMS Energy (NYSE:CMS) (Jackson). The project involves replacing the existing 312-MW Hitachi turbines with Toshiba turbines to bring the unit's generating capacity to 360 MW. Construction on the $134 million project began early last year, with Newkirk Electric Associates Incorporated (Muskegon, Michigan) acting as contractor.
