Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $2.4 billion worth of capital projects in the U.S. Petroleum Refining Industry that are set to begin construction in second-quarter 2019, more than $1.8 billion of which is attributed to projects that Industrial Info assesses as having a high probability (81-99%) of kicking off as planned. Virtually all of the projects that are considered very likely to kick off are found in the U.S. Southwest region, where the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast areas are refining hotspots.
The largest of the Gulf Coast projects is Marathon Petroleum Corporation's (NSYE:MPC) (Findlay, Ohio) multi-phase South Texas Asset Repositioning (STAR) Project, which is currently scheduled to begin construction in May and wrap up in early 2022. But the Gulf Coast is not the only geographic hub for domestic refining. An increasing number of projects are emerging in the Bakken Shale, including Meridian Energy Group Incorporated's (Belfield, North Dakota) Davis Refinery near Belfield, North Dakota.
