NedPower Completes Phase I Construction and Start-Up of West Virginia Windfarm

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--NedPower, a joint venture involving Shell WindEnergy (NYSE:RDS.A) (The Hague, The Netherlands) and Dominion Resources (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia), has completed construction and start-up of Phase I of the Mount Storm Windfarm in Grant County, West Virginia. The windfarm is located next to Dominion's Mount Storm coal-fired power plant.

The windfarm consists of 82 Gamesa (MCE:GAM) (Vitoria, Alava, Spain) wind turbines that produce a maximum of approximately 164 megawatts at their peak. Gamesa is the third-largest manufacturer of wind turbines. The cost for equipment delivery, construction and start-up was about $1 million per megawatt.

M.A. Mortenson Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota) was the general contractor for the project, which began construction in 2006 and took approximately 18 months to complete. NedPower plans to build Phase II of the Mount Storm windfarm, which is expected consist of 50 wind turbines.
