Nevada Power Begins Construction of $300 Million Expansion in Las Vegas

Nevada Power Company (Las Vegas, Nevada), a subsidiary of Sierra Pacific Resources (NYSE:SRP) (Reno, Nevada), has started construction on the $300 million 600-megawatt (MW) expansion project at the Clark Power Station located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Construction for the project started earlier this month and is scheduled to be ready for full commercial operation by the summer of 2008. The project consists of installing twelve natural gas-fired 58-Megawatt Pratt & Whitney FT8-3 Swift Pac combustion turbine generators to the existing site. Each turbine will operate in a simple cycle peaking mode producing power when energy demands are at their highest, which would be during the summer and winter months. The expansion project will also feature state of the art emissions technology for the reduction of pollutants such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to reduce NOx emissions.

CH2M Hill headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, will provide the turnkey E+P+C (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) services for the project. Lockwood Green Incorporated based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, a subsidiary of CH2M Hill will act as the general contractor.
