Nevada Power Turns Power On at Chuck Lenzie Generating Station

Nevada Power Company (Las Vegas, Nevada), a subsidiary of Sierra Pacific Resources (NYSE:SRP)(Reno, Nevada), has completed full-commercial start-up of the estimated $700 Million Moapa Chuck Lenzie Generating Station located in Moapa, Clark County, Nevada, just 20 miles northeast of the city of Las Vegas.

Nevada Power Company completed the acquisition of the project from Duke Energy on October 13, 2004, and resumed construction that following week. The project was originally scheduled to be ready for commercial operation by the summer of 2006. The first combined-cycle power block was completed ahead of its March 31st deadline and began commercial start-up last weekend, with the second power block still set for commercial start-up this summer.

The project consists of two 2-on-1 combined-cycle power blocks, both equipped with two 171-megawatt natural gas-fired GE Power Systems MS7001FA combustion turbine generators, two Aalborg Industries, Incorporated duct-fired Pioneer GT8 heat recovery steam generators and a GE Power Systems 276-megawatt condensing steam turbine generator. The project will also feature state-of-the-art air emissions reduction technology, including selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for the reduction of NOx emissions.

Fluor Constructors, Incorporated (NYSE:FLR) (Aliso Viejo, California) was awarded the contract to complete the construction of the plant.
