New Tissue Machine Under Construction at Georgia-Pacific Mill in Oregon

To further strengthen its plan to be the leading supplier of premium paper towel and bath tissue products, Georgia-Pacific (Atlanta, Georgia), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of privately held, Koch Industries (Wichita, Kansas), has engaged in the construction of a new through-air-dried (TAD) tissue paper machine and related equipment at its Wauna pulp and paper mill in Clatskanie, Oregon. Total investment for the new paper machine, No.7 (PM7), building and installation of related equipment is estimated at nearly $200 million, similar to the amount the company spent three years ago on the installation of PM6.

GP commenced construction last fall, and according to company officials, the paper machine is expected to start up by spring of 2008. The company estimates that the project will create about 550 workers during the construction period and once complete, the new paper machine will add approximately 35 jobs.
