New U.S. LNG Projects Expecting More Feed Gas

Australian energy company Woodside on Tuesday said its planned Louisiana liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal is making progress, adding to the growing demands for feed gas.Industrial Info Resources in its NATGAS Today report for Tuesday showed the amount of feed gas supporting the operational export terminals along the U.S. Gulf Coast was around 16.88 billion cubic feet (Bcf), an improvement from prior-day levels of 16.11 Bcf.
The gain was attributed to higher flows to Cheniere Energy's Corpus Christi plant, which is undergoing routine maintenance.. Elsewhere, the newly-minted Golden Pass facility is moving through the commissioning phase, with feed gas levels jumping 70% overnight to reach 586 million cubic feet.
Golden Pass, operated by a joint venture of Exxon Mobil Corporation and Qatar Energy, and the Plaquemines facility, operated by Venture Global, are new entries into the domestic LNG space, supporting the U.S. position as the No. 1 exporter of liquefied natural gas in the world.
Golden Pass as of Tuesday was taking in about 34% of its peak gas input of 1.72 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), while Plaquemines was humming along at 100% of its 3.85 Bcf/d in feed gas.
The federal government is expecting operational terminals to send out 17.4 Bcf/d of gas in the liquid form this year, a 15% improvement over 2025 levels should the forecast prove accurate. By 2027, that will jump to 18.6 Bcf/d, according to federal data from August.
Total marketed natural gas production, however, is only expected to increase by 4.3% next year to reach 127.8 Bcf/d. U.S. LNG commitments are taking on about 15% of total U.S. natural gas production, and more commitments are on the way.
Louisiana LNG Ramping Up
On Tuesday, Australian energy company Woodside said its Louisiana LNG facility is 28% completed. It could be up and running by 2028, Industrial Info Resources data show. Among the handful of LNG facilities supported by the federal government since President Donald Trump returned to the White House, Louisiana LNG is already sanctioned for deliveries. If completed as expected, it would have an export potential of about 3.8 Bcf/d of gas in the liquid form.Woodside last year sold off a stake in the Louisiana LNG facility, with U.S. gas infrastructure company Williams contributing some $1.9 billion toward the project in exchange for 10% of its expected nameplate capacity.
"At Louisiana LNG, key milestones were achieved relating to the LNG tanks and marine infrastructure," Liz Westcott, the chief executive officer at Woodside, said in a statement. "The project's foundation development was 28% complete at the end of the half, with first LNG targeted for 2029."
Globally, there could be long-term supply disruptions for LNG stemming from the war in the Middle East. Qatar, a major LNG exporter alongside Australia and the United States, may see volumes curtailed for as long as five years because of damage to its infrastructure.
Woodside said it actually benefited from the conflict, with operating revenue up 13% annually for the first half of the year, while its total production volumes declined 13% from year-ago levels.
"During the half, the Middle East conflict disrupted the global supply of LNG and oil resulting in strengthening commodity prices and an increase in customer demand for products," the company said.
