TERMINALS
U.S. Approves License for Texas Deepwater Oil Export Terminal - The U.S. Department of Transportation on Tuesday approved a license for oil transportation and storage company Sentinel Midstream's planned deepwater oil export project off the Texas coast. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement to Reuters the Texas GulfLink project is part of the Trump administration's effort to boost the U.S. oil industry and production and allow for the export of up to 1 million barrels of crude oil per day. The Texas GulfLink deepwater port will be located approximately 26.6 nautical miles off the coast of Brazoria County, Texas. CRUDE OIL
Marathon Petroleum Buys Venezuelan Crude Oil for Refineries - Marathon Petroleum said it bought two cargoes of Venezuelan crude oil at the end of January and expects its refineries to process more heavy grades, company executives said during a post-earnings call on Tuesday. "Right now, the signals are pointing towards a heavy, more sour slate, and so we're leaning into it significantly," Chief Commercial Officer Rick Hessling said. Marathon's 631,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery in Galveston Bay, Texas, and the 606,000-BBL/d facility in Garyville, Louisiana, have the ability to quickly pivot to process Venezuelan crude oil. NATURAL GAS
Russia's January Pipeline Gas Exports to Europe Up 10% from Last Year - Russian energy giant Gazprom's average daily natural gas supplies to Europe via the TurkStream undersea pipeline rose 10.3% in January year-on-year, Reuters calculations showed earlier this week. Turkey is the only transit route left for Russian gas to Europe after Ukraine chose not to extend a five-year transit deal with Moscow that expired in January 2025. Total Russian gas supplies to Europe via TurkStream stood at 1.73 billion cubic metres (bcm) in January compared to 1.57 bcm during the same period a year earlier, according to Reuters calculations.
