NextEra Energy Resources LLC Begins Construction of $400 Million Windfarm in Illinois

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--NextEra Energy Resources LLC (Juno Beach, Florida), a subsidiary of FPL Group Incorporated (NYSE:FPL) (North Palm Beach, Florida), has begun construction of the $400 million, 200-megawatt (MW) Lee DeKalb County Windfarm Project near DeKalb, Illinois.

Construction of the project began earlier this month, and the project is scheduled to be ready for full commercial operation by summer 2010. The project will consist of constructing 133 1.5-MW General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) 1.5sle model wind turbine generators, and has the potential to supply renewable energy to portions of the Afton, Clinton, Milan and Shabbona townships, all of which are near DeKalb. Once completed, the project will generate enough energy to supply power to nearly 50,000 homes and help Illinois meet its goal of generating 25% of its electricity from renewable resources by 2025.

D H Blattner & Sons Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) will provide the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services throughout the project.
