Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $14.5 billion worth of projects under construction in Ohio. Thanks to some large automotive projects, the Industrial Manufacturing Industry leads the state in the terms of the value of projects, but Ohio shows a great deal of variety in the projects presently underway, which range from Power to the Food & Beverage industries.

Among Ohio's automotive projects presently underway are projects from Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) (Dearborn, Michigan) and General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) (GM) (Detroit, Michigan) to expand the companies' production of electric vehicles (EVs).

Ford kicked off the expansion of its plant in Avon Lake earlier this year. The project entails adding several hundred thousand square feet of building space that will enable Ford to produce a new commercial EV at the plant. Ford is pouring $1.5 billion into the project, which is expected to be completed in 2025.

Rather than adding new space to its transmission-manufacturing plant in Toledo, GM is converting the 2.8 million-square-foot facility to prepare for the manufacture of electric drive units for GM's electric version of trucks and SUVS, such as the Hummer, Sierra and Silverado. The project is expected to be completed next summer. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can learn more by viewing the project reports for the Ford and GM projects.

After the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, the Power Industry is showing the most overall investment in Ohio's projects under construction. These projects come mostly in the form of photovoltaic solar farms and projects involving the closure of coal-fired power plants. Among the largest solar projects is EDF Renewables North America's (San Diego, California) Fox Squirrel solar projects in Madison County. EDF is building the project in partnership with Geenex Solar (Charlotte, North Carolina), from whom EDF acquired the project in 2020. Engineering, procurement and construction company Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) is expected to wrap up the project late next year, paving the way for the facility's 577 megawatts of nameplate generation to hit the grid. The Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry also is making a strong showing in Ohio. Spearheading project activity is Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, Ohio), which is underway with a couple of projects at its Cleveland facilities. The larger of these projects calls for the construction of 400,000-square-foot facility that will be used for the research of epilepsy and other neurological disorders. General contractor Turner Construction Company (New York, New York) kicked off construction in late 2022 and is anticipated to complete the project by the end of 2026. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical-Biotech Project Database can click here for more details on the project.

Cleveland Clinic also is expanding and renovating its Cole Eye Institute by constructing a four-story, 150,000-square-foot building and renovating the existing facility to expand research and education for ophthalmic conditions. The project is expected to be completed in 2025. Subscribers can click here for more information.

Thanks to some large pet food projects, the Food & Beverage Industry also is showing strength in Ohio's industrial landscape. Nestlé Purina PetCare Company (Saint Louis, Missouri) is putting the finishing touches on a grassroot pet food manufacturing plant in Williamsburg. According to a company press release, the facility is the company's first new factory built from the ground up since 1975. The 1.2 million-square-foot plant will produce pet foods such as Purina Pro Plan, Purina ONE and Dog Chow. Construction kicked off in late 2020 and is expected to be completed next summer.
