OQ, Naqaa to Develop 1.1 GW of Windfarms in Oman

In a significant development for Oman's clean energy ambitions, OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) (Muscat, Oman) and Naqaa Sustainable Energy (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) have announced a joint initiative to develop 1.1 gigawatts (GW) of wind power across the sultanate.

The agreement, aligned with Oman's Vision 2040, aims to boost renewable energy production in regions including Duqm, Mahout, Sadah, Dhofar and Al Wusta.

A key feature of the project is its commitment to local manufacturing. The wind turbines will be produced domestically at a new facility planned by Mawarid Turbine (Ruwi, Oman) in Duqm.

The project underlines Oman's goal to meet part of its future energy needs with renewable sources developed and built within its own borders, using local resources and workforce.
