Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). PacifiCorp (Portland, Oregon), a subsidiary of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company (Des Moines, Iowa) and Summit Vineyard LLC (Boise, Idaho), a company of Summit Group International, Limited (Silverthorne, Colorado), are nearing construction completion and are performing start-up testing for the $330 million, 535-megawatt Lake Side Power Plant located in Vineyard, Utah on the 63-acre Geneva Steel Plant site.

Construction for the project started in April 2005. PacifiCorp anticipates full commercial start-up by the summer peak demand season. The project consisted of building a 2-on-1 combined cycle power island equipped with two 170-Megawatt Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation 501 F combustion turbine generators, two NEM Group heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) that will utilize duct burners and a 195-megawtt Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation SST6-5000 condensing steam turbine generator. The power generated from the plant will be supplied to Utah Power (Salt Lake City, Utah), a subsidiary of PacifiCorp.

The project will also feature state-of-the-art air emissions controls, including selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for the control of NOx emissions and the use of catalytic oxidation for the control of CO2 emissions. Lake Side will have access to PacifiCorp’s transmission systems and will connect to the 138 Kv system at the Try-City and Timp substation. In addition, the fuel for the plant will be supplied by two area interstate natural gas pipeline systems which include Questar and Kern River Pipeline Companies. Once operational, the new power project will generate enough electricity to power over 40,000 households in Utah.

Siemens Power Corporation (Orlando, Florida), a subsidiary of Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany), acted as the turnkey E+P+C (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor for the project and Teton Industrial based in Atlanta, Georgia, was selected as the prime contractor.
