Packaging Corporation Gearing Up For Major Mill Maintenance Shutdown in Tennessee

Overall, downtime at the mill will last through April 25, with some areas resuming production after several days. PCA's engineering and maintenance departments will oversee the hiring of contractors and suppliers to complete scheduled repairs and equipment replacements.

Major operations consist of a woodyard, a 500 ton-per-day recycled fiber unit, nine batch digesters, an evaporation train, two Combustion Engineering and one Babcock & Wilcox black liquor recovery boilers, two Beloit Fourdrinier-type paper machines, two power boilers and a 37-megawatt steam turbine generator.

The Counce mill became operational in 1960 and began production in March 1961. Today, the mill employs 540 workers and produces unbleached kraft linerboard at an average of 2,600 tons per day.
