Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Phase I of the Huadian Gongxian Power Plant Project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on June 10, 2008, China Huadian Corporation (Beijing) announced on June 17, 2008.
The Huadian Gongxian Power Plant is located in the city of Yibin in southwestern China's Sichuan province. The power plant has a total planned capacity of 3,200 megawatts (MW), to be built in two phases, and is one of the 50 key projects in Sichuan province. The project is to be built and operated by Sichuan Huadian Gongxian Power Generation Company Limited (Yibin, Sichuan), a subsidiary of China Huadian Corporation directly managed by China Huadian Corporation Sichuan Company.
According to the approval plans of the NDRC, Phase I of the project will furnish the plant with two 600-MW supercritical coal-fired units together with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices with the adoption of low-nitrogen combustion technology. The project will be completed by replacing smaller units with larger units. In order to carry out the nation's policy on energy conservation and emission reduction, China Huadian Corporation, as well as its Sichuan branch company, has shut down a total of 450 MW of small thermal power units at the Huadian Yibin Power Generation General Plant, Huadian Wutongqiao Power Plant and Huadian Panzhihua Hemenkou Power Plant in the Sichuan province. Total investment of the project will be about $700 million. The project will be connected to the Yibin Grid via a dual voltage line of 220/500 kilovolts.
Huadian Gongxian Power Plant is adjacent to the Junlian and Furong coal-mining zones and is a typical pithead power plant. Preparation work of the project has been carried out smoothly since the project received approval from the NDRC to start pre-stage preparation in October 2007. Presently, site preparation of the project is complete. Construction of the project is officially ready to start, and the first unit is expected to begin operation in March 2010.
Upon completion of the Phase I project, the project will have an expected annual power output of about 6.0 billion kilowatt-hours, which could optimize the power source structure, improve the operation stability of the Sichuan Grid and play an important role in local economic development.
