Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--South Texas Electric Cooperative (STEC) has just completed Phase I of the Pearsall Power Plant, located on a brownfield site in Pearsall, Texas, which is approximately 50 miles southwest of San Antonio.

Phase I of the plant consisted of 12 natural gas-fired 20V34SG engines from Finland's Wartsila Corporation. Each engine/generator set will produce 8.4 megawatts (MW) of electricity. The total capacity for Phase I of the Pearsall Power Plant will generate 100.8 MW.

Phase I was completed in November, and Phase II is expected to be brought online before the end of the year. Phase II involves 12 Wartsila engine/generator sets. When completed, Pearsall Power Plant will generate 202.6 MW of electricity.

Burns & McDonnell, Incorporated (Kansas City, Missouri) was awarded the contract for the expansion. Burns & McDonnell will provide turnkey services and perform the engineering, procurement and construction at the site.
