Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Following the pouring of concrete for the main powerhouse on October 28, 2010, Phase-II construction of the Puqi Power Plant kicked off in Central China's Hubei province.
The Phase II expansion project entails the construction of two 1000-megawatt (MW) Chinese-made, ultra-supercritical coal-fired units. Total investment in the project will be about $1.03 billion. The project will be adopted with secondary recycled water for cooling, and the annual water consumption will be about 24.6 million cubic meters. The project will also be furnished with high-efficiency electrostatic dust removal systems, desulfurization and denitration devices, and online continuous monitoring devices.
The Puqi Power Plant is the first foreign-invested power plant in Hubei. The power plant currently has two 300-MW units, which were commissioned in June and October 2004. In June 2006, China Resources Power signed the agreement with the government of the Hubei province to construct two 1,000-MW coal-fired units at the existing plant. In December 2004, the owner submitted the project proposal to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Construction preparation began in August 2009.
On April 14, 2010, the expansion project received approval from the NDRC. On May 26, 2010, China Resources Power Hubei Company Limited (Chibi, Hubei), a regional subsidiary of China Resources Power Holdings Limited (HKG:0836) (Hong Kong), officially awarded the engineering and survey contract to Central Southern China Electric Power Design Institute (Wuhan, Hubei), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (Beijing).
According to the schedule, the project will begin operations by the end of 2012. Upon completion, the project will consume about 3.9 million metric tons of coal per year and produce about 12 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
