Phase II Expansion of Xinmi Yuzhong Power Plant Begins Full Operation

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Unit 4 of Zhengzhou Yuzhong Power Generation Company Limited's (Zhengzhou, Henan) Xinmi Yuzhong Power Plant passed the 168-hour, full-load continuous trial operation on July 30, 2012. This means that the 2,000-megawatt (MW) Phase II expansion of Xinmi Yuzhong Power Plant has been put into full operation, according to an announcement from the Power Construction Corporation of China (PCCC) (Beijing), the project construction contractor, on July 31.

The Xinmi Yuzhong Power Plant, located at Quliang Town, Xinmi City in the southwest of Zhengzhou, the capital city of Central China's Henan Province, is invested by Beijing Sanjili Energy Company Limited (Beijing). The power plant was built in 2005, with two 300-MW, coal-fired units commissioned in December 2006 and April 2007.

The Phase II expansion is furnished with two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units, together with flue gas desulfuration and denitration devices. East China Electric Power Design Institute (Shanghai) is responsible for the design and engineering of the project. The project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in October 2010. Construction of the project began at the end of 2010. Unit 3 was commissioned in March 2012.

Unit 4 of the project was contracted by Henan No.2 Thermal Power Construction Company Limited (Zhengzhou, Henan), a subsidiary of the PCCC. On July 15, 2012, the unit was connected to the grid. On July 23, 2012, the unit was fully loaded for the first time. It took only 17 days from the first startup of the whole unit to the completion of the full-load trial operation. During the trial operation, various technical parameters of the unit were all rated at an excellent level. As reported, the power plant will be able to generate 14 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year, and is so far the largest coal-fired power base in Zhengzhou City.
