Pinelawn Power LLC Completes Construction of New 80-Megawatt Peaking Plant in New York

Construction for the project started in October of 2004 and was completed in April 2005.

Released Wednesday, July 13, 2005

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Pinelawn Power LLC, a joint venture of DiFazio Electric Incorporated (Deer Park, New York) and Harbert Power LLC (Birmingham, Alabama), has completed construction and startup testing for the $35 million, 80-megawatt Pinelawn Peaking Station in Babylon, Suffolk County, New York.

Construction for the project started in October of 2004 and was completed in April 2005. Pinelawn commenced simple-cycle operation this month and is scheduled to begin full combined-cycle operation in October 2005. The project consisted of a 45-megawatt GE Power Systems LM6000 SPRINT combustion turbine generator, an Innovative Steam Technologies once-through steam generator equipped with duct burners, and a single 35-megawatt Siemens Demag Delaval Industrial Turbomachinery condensing steam turbine generator. The project also features state-of-the-art air emissions-reduction technology, including selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for the reduction of NOx emissions and catalytic oxidation for the control of CO emissions.

Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) will purchase the plant's entire output through a 20-year Power Purchasing Agreement, which will help meet growing electrical demands of LIPA customers. The Suffolk County Water Authority will supply the water for the new peaking plant through its Pinelawn Industrial Area distribution system.

Pinelawn Constructors, headquartered in Ramsey, New Jersey, performed the engineering for the project. DiFazio Electric Incorporated of Deer Park, New York acted as the general contractor. Wood Group Power Operations Incorporated, a subsidiary of Wood Group (Houston, Texas), will operate and maintain the plant.
