Plastic Molder Hi-Tech Expands in Louisville

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Louisville injection molder, Hi-Tech Mold & Tool LLC (Louisville, Kentucky) is more than doubling its original plant area. The company held a ceremonial groundbreaking on June 16th for a new 85,000 square foot manufacturing facility, which will be located adjacent to its original 53,500 square foot head office and manufacturing plant on South Park Road in Louisville, in the 3000-acre Louisville Renaissance Zone.

The $5.5 million expansion project will add 150 new jobs to the 107 Hi-Tech employs at this time, and will allow the company to develop new technologies and products that it lacked the space to produce before, such as blow molding or non-plastics manufacturing. The expansion will also include a 35,000 square foot dedicated cleanroom facility, as well as add 16 new presses to the 24 30-ton to 750-ton presses they now have.

This expansion is the third since construction in 1998 of the company's original 10,000 square foot plant. In 1994, it added 4,500 square feet, then in 1998, another 39,000 square feet. The 85,000 square feet added in 2004 will bring the company's total area to 123,500 square feet. Louisville-based Brenco Construction Company LLC is general contractor for the project. Actual site work and construction on the building are expected to begin this week, weather permitting. Construction completion is targeted for October 2004.

Founded in 1983, Hi-Tech Mold & Tool LLC (not to be confused with Hi-Tech Mold & Tool Incorporated of Pittsfield, Massachusetts), has evolved its business from a tool and die operation to a plastics injection molding company, and is QS-9000 and ISO-9000 certified. Hi-Tech makes custom plastic molds and does plastic injection molding, tooling, decorating, thermoforming, and foam fabricating to the customer's specifications.

Louisville, Kentucky is currently ranked fourth in the nation in industrial capital project activity according to Industrialinfo.com's recently published Top 20 Industrial Cities List.
