Among the leading projects of both states is Xcel Energy Incorporated's (NASDAQ:XEL) (Minneapolis, Minnesota) Dakota Range Windfarm near South Shore, South Dakota. In keeping with its aim to reduce carbon emissions 80% from 2005 levels by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, Xcel is launching a massive wind power buildout, as seen in this 300+-megawatt (MW) windfarm. The wind facility is being built in two parts, both of which are under construction and anticipated to be completed early next year. Project owner Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company (New York, New York) recently began construction on the Fall River solar plant near Oelrichs.
