Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--In October 2013, Regis Resources Limited (ASX:RRL) marked the completion of its Rosemont gold mine and processing plant in Western Australia, with the first gold pour in late October. The project is located approximately 90 kilometres north of Laverton in Western Australia's Goldfields-Esperance region. It is about 10 kilometres from the company's Garden Gold Processing Facility.
The Rosemont project included the construction of an open pit mine and primary crushing and screening circuit. The 1.5 million tons per year of gold ore from Rosemont is to be pumped through a 10-kilometre-long slurry pipeline to the company's Garden Well Carbon-in-Leach Gold Facility for further processing. Regis also completed the construction of the slurry pipeline, in tandem with the Rosemont mine. Commissioning of the crushing circuit and ball mill commenced on October 19, 2013, and the plant has run continuously since October 21. The first ore was pumped through to the Garden Well Processing Facility on October 20.
The second stage of the Rosemont project involves an expansion of the Garden Well Processing Facility to support the increased ore from the new Rosemont mine. Garden Well is undergoing an expansion to increase the plant capacity from 6.5 million tons per year to an estimated 8 million tons per year. The plant will add four leach tanks to the existing six and have minor modification to the layout. The expansion will increase Garden Well's gold production to a total of 100,000 ounces. Regis Resources expects the Garden Well plant expansion to be complete by mid-2014.
The first stage was completed on schedule within the stipulated budget of $55 million, including the slurry pipeline. It had the involvement of engineering, consulting and project management firm Mintrex Pty Limited (Perth). Regis has secured an approval for another $20 million for the Garden Well expansion. Mobilization of equipment and contractors for Stage 2 works commenced late in the third quarter.
"Whilst our immediate focus will be on commissioning and optimising operations at Rosemont, our construction team will soon turn their attention to the development of Stage 2, which will be the construction of the balance of the processing plant, estimated to be completed in the June 2014 quarter," said Mark Clark, Regis' managing director.
