Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Rocky Mountain Power (Salt Lake City, Utah), a division of PacifiCorp (Portland, Oregon), recently filed applications with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission to build or acquire four wind projects in Wyoming with a total capacity of 860 megawatts (MW). The company also filed applications for transmission facilities, including the 140-mile Energy Gateway West transmission and distribution project, which would alleviate existing transmission congestion and enable interconnection of the proposed wind projects into the company's electrical grid.

The company's Energy Vision 2020 initiative would upgrade or repower its existing wind fleet with longer blades and new technology, add new wind resources and construct the Energy Gateway West project.

Rocky Mountain Power stated that it expects to execute engineering, procurement and construction contracts for the wind projects by April 2018, with construction to begin by the second quarter of 2019. The Rocky Mountain Power 2017 request for proposal (RFP) will seek up to 1,270 megawatts (MW) of new wind resources and will be issued in August of 2017. The company expects to announce the winning bidders in January 2018.

Currently, IIR is tracking 23 transmission and distribution project for Rocky Mountain Power valued at more than $2.8 billion and four wind projects valued at $1.74 billion.

If the wind and transmission projects are approved and constructed, they would be commercially operational by December of 2020 in order to qualify for the federal production tax credits.
