The overall project management contractor for the expansion is Foster Wheeler Energy, Limited (Reading, England). Snamprogetti S p A (San Donato Milanese, Italy) is performing engineering, procurement, and construction services and expects to complete mechanical installation in 2008.
Morocco has two refineries, Samir Oil Refinery at Mohammedia and Sidi Kacem, with a combined capacity of 154,901 barrels per day. Samir was a state-owned refinery until 1997. It was at that time that the company was privatized. As a result of its privatization in 1997, the Swedish registered Corral Petroleum bought a 67.7% stake in the refinery together with a 73.88% stake in the Societe Cherifienne des Petroles (SCP) Refinery at Sidi Kacem Refinery for $468 million. The Samir refinery produces 80% to 90% of the country's refined petroleum products.
