Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Qatar Energy (Doha, Qatar) has awarded South Korea's Samsung C&T Corporation (Seoul) a US$1.2 billion engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build the country's largest solar power facility in Dukhan.

The 2,000-megawatt (MW) facility will span 27 square kilometers and feature 2.74 million panels with tracking systems. This will be operational in two phases--1,000 MW by end-2028 and the remaining 1,000 MW by mid-2029. The large-scale facility is part of Qatar's strategy to diversify its energy mix and expand renewable capacity in line with its National Vision 2030.

Samsung C&T won the contract following a competitive tender launched earlier this year. The company will manage the project on a turnkey basis, including design and construction of advanced inverters tailored for Qatar's high-temperature desert conditions. The development is a key pillar of Qatar's National Vision 2030, aimed at diversifying its energy mix, boosting renewable capacity and cutting power-sector carbon emissions. Once operational, the plant will supply clean electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes and cement Qatar's standings as a regional leader in utility-scale solar power.
