SeaCoast Gas Transmission Plans a New Natural Gas Pipeline in Florida

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--SeaCoast Gas Transmission LLC (Tampa, Florida), a newly formed subsidiary of TECO Energy Incorporated (NYSE:TE) (Tampa, Florida), is planning to construct a natural gas pipeline to connect to the planned 553-megawatt Greenland Energy Center in southeast Jacksonville, Florida. The future plant, which is planned to begin commercial operation in 2010, will be owned by JEA, which owns and manages the electricity for the city of Jacksonville. The new pipeline will be approximately 50 miles in length and will be 24 inches and 16 inches in diameter, with an initial capacity of 500 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

The pipeline will source the natural gas from both Florida Gas Transmission (Houston, Texas) and Southern Natural Gas (Houston) pipeline systems. If constructed, the proposed pipeline will have an estimated capital cost of over $55 million. TECO Energy Incorporated has awarded the design and engineering contract for the new pipeline to Energy Management Services Company (Jeddo, Michigan). SeaCoast Gas Transmission expects to begin construction on the new natural gas pipeline in April 2010 and have the pipeline completed and in service by the fourth quarter of 2010.
