Summary

Siemens is planning to bolster its manufacturing and service businesses in the U.S., following a period of strong order growth.

U.S. Demand Fuels Boom in Orders

Siemens AG is upbeat about its prospects for the coming year--particularly in the U.S., where a rapid growth in energy demand is fueling development of the company's Power Industry equipment. Industrial Info is tracking more than US$60 billion worth of projects across the U.S. that have a medium-to-high likelihood (70% or more) of beginning construction as planned and are using, or considering using, Siemens as a contractor.

Headquartered in Munich, Germany, Siemens said its orders for the first quarter of its 2026 fiscal year totaled 21.37 billion euros (US$25.34 billion), a 6.5% increase from the same period for 2025. The growth was led by record-high order intake at Siemens' Smart Infrastructure division, which develops energy systems and digital solutions for installation at public and private industries. Siemens' Digital Industries business reported 15% profit growth from its software and automation products.

Examples from Siemens' Smart Infrastructure division include Hackensack Meridian Health's microgrid addition at its Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair, New Jersey. Administrators of the hospital complex aim to install a microgrid system across nine buildings to reduce the burden on the main grid; components include Siemens' SICAM Microgrid Controller. The project started construction in early 2025 and is set to wrap up later this year.

Other Smart Infrastructure projects in North America include Transmission Developers Incorporated's Champlain Hudson Power Express Transmission Line, which is designed to transport renewable energy from Quebec, Canada, to Queens, New York. Installation work on the line began in August 2024, and it is expected to deliver its first power later this year. Siemens was selected to provide its "HVDC Plus" converter technology for the project's Luyster Creek Converter Station in Astoria, New York. By the Numbers
  • More than US$60 billion: Total investment value of U.S.-based projects using, or considering using, Siemens as a contractor
  • US$1 billion: What Siemens expects to spend on ramping up its manufacturing of gas turbines and power-grid solutions in the U.S.
  • US$22.7 billion: Global revenues for Siemens in its fiscal first-quarter 2026

More Investment in U.S. Facilities

Siemens recently announced it had finalized a plan to invest US$1 billion to ramp up manufacturing of gas turbines and power-grid solutions across its U.S.-based businesses. Nearly 29% of the company's global order volume went to the U.S. in the 2025 fiscal year. Among the projects announced as part of the development was a high-voltage switchgear plant in Richland, Mississippi. Located in the city's West Rankin Industrial Park, the project, still in its early design phases, would boost the company's production of switchgears in the region, which is seeking to modernize its aging grid infrastructure. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.

"Orders rose to a quarterly record high," the company said in a quarterly earnings-related press release. "This increase was mainly driven by the electrification and the electrical products businesses and included several larger contract wins from data center customers, predominantly in the U.S."

Siemens' power-generation projects include Xcel Energy Incorporated's Gaines County Power Station in Seminole, Texas, which is using five of Siemens' natural gas-fired SGT6-5000F combustion turbines. In development as far back as 2017, the project is set to begin construction in the coming weeks. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.

The company also is involved in more than US$19 billion worth of active and proposed offshore windfarms across the U.S., some of which are moving forward despite staunch opposition from the Trump administration. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed list of project reports.

Siemens said its global net income for its fiscal first-quarter 2026 fell to 2.22 billion euros (US$2.63 billion) from 3.87 billion euros (US$4.59 billion) in the same period for 2025; however, that quarter benefited from a 2.1 billion-euro (US$2.49 billion) after-tax gain from the sale of Siemens' Innomotics business. Group revenues totaled 19.14 billion euros (US$22.7 billion), an 8% increase.
