Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Southern Illinois Power Cooperative (Marion, Illinois) began commercial operation of two new GE Power Systems MS7001EA (Frame 7 EA) combustion turbines at their Marion Power Station. Marion is a 272 megawatt (MW) power station located in Marion, Illinois in Williamson County.
The new additions to the power station will help boost its megawatt capacity from 272 MW to 432 MW. The two simple cycle combustion turbines have a total capacity of 166 MW, with summertime rating of 144 MW. The power station will use natural gas as the primary source of fuel to power the two combustion turbines with number 2 fuel oil as a back up fuel source. When number 2 fuel oil is used the power station will consume approximately 225 gallons of water per minute for water injection as a flue gas emissions control measure. The additional power generated at this station will be used for peaking purposes only to meet high summer demands.
Southern Illinois Power Cooperative awarded both the owners' engineering and construction contract to the Chicago, Illinois based Sargent & Lundy LLC. Sargent & Lundy provides complete consulting, engineering, and project development services for all types of thermal power, nuclear power, and power delivery projects.
