U.S. Drillers Cut Rigs for Seventh Consecutive Week - U.S. energy firms last week cut the number of oil and natural gas rigs operating for a seventh week in a row to the lowest since November 2021, energy services firm Baker Hughes Company (Houston, Texas) reported Friday. The oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output, fell by four to 555 in the week ending June 13. The oil rig count fell by three to 439 last week, its lowest since October 2021, while gas rigs slipped by one to 113. (Reuters)

Analysts: China's 2025 LNG Imports Expected to Decline - China's annual imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are forecast to decline for the first time in three years on weak industrial demand and strong domestic and piped gas supply, according to revised forecasts from five research firms. Imports are set to fall between 6% and 11% from the 76.65 million metric tons shipped last year. China's LNG imports last contracted in 2022 as demand tumbled during the pandemic lockdowns, according to customs data. China's LNG imports fell to 20 million metric tons during the first four months of this year, down from nearly 29 million tons in the corresponding period last year, customs data showed. (Reuters)

Amazon Makes 1,920-MW Nuclear Purchase Agreement - Talen Energy (Houston, Texas) has entered into a 1,920-megawatt (MW) power purchase agreement with Amazon.com Incorporated (Seattle, Washington) to supply data centers in Pennsylvania from the independent power producer's majority-owned Susquehanna nuclear power plant, the company said last week. The contract, which runs through 2042, calls for delivering 840 MW to 1,200 MW in 2029 and 1,680 MW to 1,920 MW in 2032. Talen and Amazon will explore building small modular reactors in Pennsylvania and pursue expanding Susquehanna's output through uprates, the company said. Amazon on Monday said it plans to spend about $20 billion building data centers in Pennsylvania.
