Tampa Electric Confirms Startup and Repowering of 750 MW Natural Gas-Fired Unit

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Tampa Electric Company, a subsidiary of TECO Energy Incorporated (NYSE: TE), has confirmed the startup of the 750 MW Natural gas-fired Bayside Unit 1 and is currently underway for the construction and repowering of Unit 2.

Located in Hillsborough County at the 1,200 MW Bayside F J Gannon Power Station, the existing Bayside Unit 1 steam turbine, formerly called Old Gannon Unit 5 before being converted from coal to natural-gas, will include three GE Frame 7A combustion turbines and heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) and generate electricity from clean burning, efficient natural gas.

In 1999, Tampa Electric first announced plans to repower the 1,200 MW Gannon Power Station and convert coal to natural gas. Using natural gas with high efficiency, state-of-the-art emissions controls, Tampa Electric will be able to further significantly reduce emissions.
