Tampa Electric Ready for Commercial Start-up of $350 Million Bayside Unit-2 Repowering Project

The newly repowered Bayside Unit-2, formally named Gannon Unit-6, has replaced the existing coal-fired boiler with four 172 megawatt natural gas fired GE Power Systems MS7001FA PG7241(FA) combustion turbine generators equipped with dry low NOx burners. Each combustion turbine is connected to an Alstom Power heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR), all working in combined-cycle operation with the existing 414 megawatt Siemens Westinghouse tandem compound condensing steam turbine generator.

Bayside Unit-2 will generate approximately 900 megawatts and is expected to begin full commercial operation this weekend.

Sargent & Lundy LLC incorporated headquartered in Chicago, Illinois was awarded the engineering contract on the project. The Industrial Company (TIC) (Steamboat Springs, Colorado) was the general contractor for the project.
