Among the largest projects involving TechnipFMC is Sasol Limited's (NYSE:SSL) (Johannesburg, South Africa) Lake Charles Chemical Project in Louisiana, for which TechnipFMC is providing EPC along with Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas). Construction on the project began in early 2015 and is expected to wrap up later this year. The complex will contain an ethylene production unit and several downstream units. The project's estimated total investment value (TIV) is $11.7 billion. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the ethylene unit, ethylene oxide and monoethylene glycol unit, the low-density polyethylene unit, the linear low-density polyethylene unit, the alumina unit expansion, the ethoxylation unit expansion, the Ziegler 2 alcohol unit and the Guerbet alcohol unit, as well as January 23, 2019, article - Fluor Nears Finish Line on Sasol Complex, Set to Kick Off LyondellBasell, Other Projects.
TechnipFMC also is playing a role in the lucrative liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. Among its largest LNG projects is Sempra Energy's (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California) Costa Azul LNG plant in Mexico. TechnipFMC is providing EPC with Kiewit Corporation (Omaha, Nebraska). The project involves converting an existing LNG regasification plant by adding two production trains for a total production capacity of 12.4 million metric tons per year. The $6.2 billion project moved a step closer to fruition earlier this month when the U.S. Department of Energy gave Sempra permission to export natural gas from the U.S. to Mexico and to export the LNG to countries without a free trade agreement with the U.S. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Louisiana, TechnipFMC is providing EPC for SCT&E LNG LLC's (Temecula, California) proposed Monkey Island LNG facility in Cameron Parish. The project would be built on 246-acre site, initially with one train to produce 5.25 million metric tons per year of LNG, along with three LNG storage tanks with a capacity of 160,000 cubic meters and a shipping terminal. Construction on the first stage could begin next year, for completion in 2024. A second and third train could eventually be added. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Train 1, Train 2 and Train 3.
In Corunna, Ontario, TechnipFMC is performing EPC on an ethylene unit expansion for NOVA Chemicals Corporation (Calgary, Alberta). Production of the 2.1 billion-pound-per-year unit will be increased by 50% to 60% through the installation of two cracking furnaces and debottlenecking. The project kicked off late last year and is expected to wrap up in second-quarter 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Texas, TechnipFMC is providing engineering and construction services for the expansion of Exxon Mobil Corporation's (NYSE:XOM) (ExxonMobil) (Irving) refinery in Beaumont. The project will increase the capacity of the existing 344,000-barrel-per-day refinery by adding a third, 250,000-BBL/d crude unit, as well as a kerosene hydrotreater, diesel hydrotreater and benzene recovery unit. The project has an estimated TIV of $2 billion and is expected to be completed in early 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
As an international firm, TechnipFMC also has several lucrative projects outside North America. Among these is a joint venture headed by Eni SpA (NYSE:E) (Rome, Italy) and ExxonMobil for a floating LNG production facility in Mozambique, in which TechnipFMC is part of an EPC consortium. The vessel will receive and process approximately 362 million cubic feet of gas per day to produce 3.4 million tons per year of LNG. The vessel will be 430 meters long, 66 meters wide and will weigh about 210,000 tons. Construction began in the first half of last year and is expected to be completed in first-quarter 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
